Ph.D. DESIGN is a full-service, design-oriented firm committed to creating distinctive residences by bridging traditional sensibilities with contemporary needs and modern technologies. Along with a specialization in residential design, Ph.D. Design has extensive experience with commercial façade design. Commercial buildings, including storefronts, shopping malls, and apartment buildings, as well as interior design, fall into Ph.D. Design’s capabilities.
Technically, Ph.D. Design moves with each project from start to finish. Working closely with engineers and builders, Ph.D. Design ensures that appropriate structural systems, building materials, construction, and HVAC technologies are utilized. Ph.D. Design teams up with seasoned builders, suppliers, and kitchen specialists, ensuring that each element of a project is looked after by a specialized professional. From the initial consultation to the end of construction, Ph.D. Design ensures that the client’s experience is memorably enriching.
Peter Marzynski
A lover of history, a Professor of Design as well as a prolific & highly successful practicing interior and architectural designer, Peter Marzynski’s father Stanislaw, was a Professor of Architecture and one of the most respected architects in Warsaw, Poland. Peter followed in his father’s footsteps as a designer of residential & commercial projects, beginning his career in Europe practicing Architecture.
Ph.D. Design was founded in 1985 by Peter Marzynski and has since designed and overseen the construction of some 500 projects in prestigious areas of Toronto such as Rosedale and Forest Hill, Etobicoke’s The Kingsway, Mississauga and King City among others. From Tudor through Georgian, Victorian and Craftsman styles, Peter is also highly adept at cutting-edge Modernist structures. Priding itself on stunning interior design, PhD Design counts several designers in its team.
He remarks: “Being a small practice, my clients deal directly with me throughout their project. My design philosophy seeks to strike a harmonious balance while striving to be functional. There needs to be an awareness of the environment and local culture; keeping in mind I am building for longevity to guarantee a good long-term investment for my clients.”
Peter is a recipient of several European architectural prizes & awards for projects as disparate as a University Library, a Shopping Centre, a commercial complex, and a church and convents. His work was published in Time Magazine, The National Post, and The Globe and Mail, House and Home, European and Asian press. He is also an accomplished photographer.
